Memorial Day plans
If you don’t have any plans for Memorial Day, we’d love to have you fellowship with some Rioites! Here’s our plan:
1) Hiking to Aden Crater (31 miles NW of the church building)
2) Swimming and hanging out - 1:00-6:00
3) Potluck – 6 p.m. Bring whatever you want and we’ll trust that it will work out. If we end up just having lots of desserts, then so be it.
4) 7ish - Memorial Day prayer. We’ll gather around and pray for our country and our soldiers.
"First Service"/Bar outreach – Saturday nights/Sunday mornings, 1 a.m. – 2:30 a.m.
This is a great chance to love people and serve them. We give out free hot dogs and water and strike up conversations. It’s as simple as that! Roll out of bed and show up at the westside church building (next to Little Bit of Texas). This is an extremely effective way to meet people and get into serious spiritual conversations. We have been swamped and could use a lot more people. Please come if you can. Every week lives are changed.
Men’s Prayer
Westside: Fridays at 5:30 a.m. at the Nelsons’ (725 Montclair)
Northeast: Saturdays at 9 a.m. at the Freedom Crossing Starbucks.
It is important to keep the fires of our heart stoked. Prayer keeps us humble before God, dependent on Him, and focused on the things that are on His heart!
Psalms 5:3 In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.
Youth Group
Many of the youth group kids (and adults) meet around 5:45 p.m. on Fridays at West Side Park (High Ridge and Resler). During this time we fellowship and connect with any kids we met during the summer outreach. After the park (around 7:00 p.m.) we head to the westside church building to hold our parent-led youth group.
Pizza/tacos after church (westside) – Sunday, May 19 (Also: June 9 & 30)
Once or twice each month we are going to have pizza/tacos after church. The reason we do this is to allow people to stay for a few extra minutes since they are going to eat anyway. It is very hard to develop meaningful relationships in our busy society, so we would like to foster relationship building in any way we can. Please hang out, eat some pizza, and meet someone new! Everyone is welcome!
Men of God – Saturday, May 25th, 6:30 a.m. at the westside church building
(Also June 22))
If you were not able to attend our first meeting, please listen to it so you can know what is going on and be a part of our brotherhood of men seeking to live out our Christian calling.
Fiesta/House church – Thursday, May 30 (concert at West Side Park) 6 p.m.- 8:30
(Also: June 27)
Small groups are great because they provide an opportunity to have a group of people who you see regularly, you know what is going on in their lives, and you can support and encourage one another. Yet sometimes it is nice to eat, intermingle, pray, worship, and break bread together as a larger group. That’s what our fiesta/house church meetings are for. Everyone is welcome.
A-M Main dish / N-Z Side dish and dessert
If you are coming late, you can bring a dessert.
Rio Creative Community – 7 p.m. at the westside church building on Friday, June 21
Creative Community is a Rio Women’s Event where we will come together for a fun evening of conversation and creativity. Invite a friend and come learn how to do something you’ve always wanted to learn like knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, jewelry making, salsa dancing, and more. You can also volunteer to teach someone how to do one of those things listed or some other skill you have. The evening will also include a 15 minute devotional. If you have questions, call Daralee at (915) 207-8307 or Patti (915) 274-7406. Invite a friend!
Pastor’s Social – 12:30 on Sunday, June 23
If you are somewhat new to the Rio, Steve and Kathleen would like to invite you to their house (725 Montclair) for some lunch after church. Steve will share a little about the vision and beliefs of the church. Please RSVP if you are planning to attend.
High School Leadership Training (HSLT) – June 26-30
This yearly conference is for high school kids. With great worship, teachings, fellowship, service projects and evangelism, it is powerfully impacting. It would be ideal if one parent came from each family to make it the best experience possible. REGISTRATIONS DUE MAY 22. Cost = $175 +$40 gas. Click for more.
VBS – Aug 5-9 at westside location
Faithwalkers - Dec. 27-30
Previous Faithwalkers’ teachings are available online.
Make sure to pencil in this year’s conference! Faithwalkers is a time when all the Great Commission Churches come together in three different locations across the nation. It is a time of dynamic worship, heartfelt teachings, and intense fellowship. It is a time when you can really reevaluate your relationship with God and is something you don't want to miss.
